How intermittent fasting program improves longevity?

Longevity is hindered by bad habits that kill more people than everything else combined. Intermittent fasting is a powerful tool to avoid many diseases. Your START Wellness app teaches and helps you to have a long and healthy life.

In 2016, worldwide, 56.7 million people died. If we watch the news, it is likely to believe that the majority died from terrorist attacks, crimes, or car crashes. But, accidents, crimes, and suicide combined, represent only 7.8 % of total deaths.

  1. Whereas cardiovascular disease represents 31.59 %.
  2. In second place is cancer with 16.43%.
  3. And the bronze goes to Chronic respiratory disease, Respiratory infections, and tuberculosis; together accumulating 14%.

Together, these 4 main causes gather 62% of all the deaths. As you can see, bad habits kill more people than everything else combined. Intermittent fasting is a powerful tool to avoid these diseases. Your START Wellness app teaches and helps you to have a long, healthy and fulfilled life by greatly increasing longevity.

In order to find out how to live more, we have two sources of information:

  1. People who lived to 100 years old or more.
  2. Scientists who understand the process of ageing.

What do centenarians say?

Blue Zones are areas that have a higher concentration of centenarians. Longevity is at its maximum here. People suffer less from fatal diseases and enjoy a healthier life. These areas are Sardinia (Italy), Loma Linda, California (USA), Nicoya Peninsula (Costa Rica), Okinawa Islands (Japan), and Icaria (Greece). As you can see, these areas are spread all around the world. So, is not a consequence of climate, air, or politics.

There is research that tried to understand what are the similarities between these people and why longevity is beyond the norm in these areas. Genetics only account for 20%-30% of longevity. Environmental factors like diet and lifestyle play a larger role. Here are 10 things that are common amongst people who live in blue zones greatly increasing their longevity:

  1. 95% plant-based diet
  2. They stop eating when they’re 80% full
  3. They adopt a lifestyle of fasting
  4. They consume alcohol in moderate amounts (usually it is red wine)
  5. They do at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week
  6. They are in tune with their circadian rhythms (they sleep when it is night and they wake up when the sun rises)
  7. People find their purpose (having something to live for, makes you wanna get up in the morning)
  8. They Relax
  9. Stay social (it is important to maintain strong social relationships)
  10. They drink black coffee (no cream, no sugar, just natural coffee)

Your START Wellness intermittent fasting and water program teaches you the same things: Sleep well, stay active, control your emotions, and eat at the right times bettering your longevity. People living in blue zones areas, also all take good care of what they eat, when they eat and they do some sort of fasting, it is found.

A 2015 study, conducted with mice, found that mimicked fasting extended lifespans, lowered visceral fat, reduced cancer incidence, and rejuvenated the immune system. Another experiment on mice, from 2019, found that mice who fasted lived longer than mice who ate normally, regardless of what they ate or how many calories they consumed.

On your START Wellness intermittent fasting and water program, alternating between times of fasting and time of eating triggers a metabolic switch. During this switch, cells use up their stores of sugar as fuel and begin converting fat into energy. Studies have shown that this switch improves blood sugar regulation, increases resistance to stress, and suppresses inflammation of the body.

What do scientists say?

Cells contain small structures called mitochondria, which generate energy. Mitochondria combine oxygen and glucose to produce carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Free radicals arise as by-products of this metabolic process. However, cells also produce antioxidants that neutralize these free radicals. The imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body is called oxidative stress. Limiting free radicals and increasing antioxidant content in the body, can help slow down the aging process increasing longevity. During your START Wellness intermittent fasting program, growth hormone is stimulated, which amplifies this process of autophagy of broken mitochondria and producing new ones.

Free radicals are generated by

  1. Exogenous factors:
  2. Environmental pollutants
  3. Heavy metals
  4. Drugs
  5. Chemical solvents
  6. Cooking (smoked meat, used oil, and fat)
  7. Cigarette smoke
  8. Alcohol
  9. Radiations

When these exogenous compounds penetrate the body, they are degraded or metabolized, and free radicals are generated as byproducts.

  • Endogenous factors: diet and lifestyle, stress, infections

Infections and injuries trigger the body’s immune response. Free radicals are produced while fighting off invading germs. These free radicals can damage healthy cells, causing inflammation. The immune system eliminates the infection and the inflammation disappears. Oxidative stress can, also, trigger the inflammatory response creating a cycle.

Chronic inflammation due to oxidative stress may lead to several conditions including:

  • Cancer
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Diabetes
  • Blood pressure, atherosclerosis, and stroke
  • Inflammatory disorders
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Asthma
  • Male infertility

Mild oxidative stress may protect the body from infection and diseases. In a 2015 study, scientists found that oxidative stress limited the spread of melanoma cancer cells in mice. However, long-term and uncontrolled oxidative stress damages the body’s cells, proteins, and DNA, accelerating the aging process and may contribute to the development of a number of diseases. As we age metabolic processes slow down, the immune system weakens, and the production of essential enzymes and antioxidants declines. The rate at which we age also depends on our lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise.

Inactivity and high-intensity physical exercise are related to increased oxidative stress, whereas moderate-intensity exercise is related to a reduction in oxidative stress levels. Exercise increases free radical formation, which can cause temporary oxidative stress in the muscles. However, the free radicals formed during physical activity regulate tissue growth and stimulate the production of antioxidants.

Free radicals are substances partially burned and they have the capacity of initiating aggressive oxidation reactions. Free radicals cannot simply be eliminated. They act on cell membranes, modifying DNA structures, which result in the deformation or death of those cells.

The human body has a natural system to fight free radicals, primarily through a series of protected enzymes. There are other antioxidants like vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, flavonoids, tannins and lignins. Foods such as fruits and vegetables provide many of these essential antioxidants, that the body cannot create on its own. But when these antioxidants fail to cope with the action of free radicals, they are no longer neutralized and begin to accumulate. Then the oxidative stress is installed.

In 2017, Valter Longo, one of the world’s leading longevity scientists, found that being on an intermittent fasting program like START Wellness helped improve several aspects of age-related diseases in humans like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

A 2019 experiment, published in the American Heart Association’s’ journal Circulation, analysed intermittent fasting and its direct effects on longevity. Of the 2000 subjects, 380 described themselves as routine fasters (minimum of five years). The fasters had a greater survival (-49% risk of death) compared to the non-fasters.  This study indicates that routine long-term intermittent fasting programs like the one provided by your START Wellness app is associated with greater longevity.

The amount of time we live is called lifespan. The length of time that a person is healthy and functional is called a health span. Both your lifespan and health span greatly benefit from your START Wellness intermittent fasting and water program. Your quality of life combined with your longevity leads to internal and personal fulfilment/happiness.

In just 7 days you’ll FEEL the change.
