Shams Studios has been launched as an international production destination, offering specialist soundstages and comprehensive facilities tailored for large-scale global content creation.
Sharjah Media City (Shams) has officially opened Shams Studios, a major purpose-built production complex that aims to reinforce Sharjah’s position on the global media map. With 9,600 square metres of advanced soundstages featuring top-tier specifications, the complex is set to become one of the Middle East’s most ambitious studio developments.
As production space remains limited across Europe and North America, the new studios seek to attract global filmmakers—particularly from the UK, US, and India—by offering high-capacity stages, cost-effective production environments, and strategic access to multiple international markets.
The new complex launches with five custom-designed soundstages. These include three 1,500-square-metre stages, a 2,000-square-metre stage, and a flagship stage spanning 3,100 square metres, together forming 9,600 square metres of indoor production capability.
Each soundstage has been constructed to meet international acoustic, structural, and power standards, supporting an extensive variety of productions such as feature films, global TV dramas, entertainment formats, and technology-driven hybrid or virtual productions.
Shams Studios adds to the wider regional media landscape, sitting alongside established hubs like Dubai Studio City, Abu Dhabi’s twofour54, and Saudi Arabia’s NEOM Media Industries.
The studios form part of Sharjah Media City’s broader creative framework and will incorporate numerous complementary facilities. Among these are plans for a 700-seat theatre for premieres and cultural events, the Creative Oasis district offering public and educational spaces, and full-service production infrastructure including workshops, offices, post-production suites, and talent development labs.
This combined environment is intended to support the complete creative journey, from concept development and production to public showcase and industry networking.
Its location between Europe, Asia, Africa, and India offers several operational advantages, including strong transport links, stable infrastructure, cost-efficient production conditions, access to varied landscapes and multicultural talent, and convenient collaboration with teams based in UK and European time zones.
Shams Studios is positioned to appeal to major productions requiring scale, availability, and year-round shooting options.
H.E. Mr Rashid Abdulla Al Obad, Director General of Sharjah Media City (Shams), stated:
“Shams Studios marks a significant advancement in Sharjah’s vision to become a global hub for film and content creation. With 9,600 square meters of purpose-built stages and a vibrant creative ecosystem, we are prepared to welcome international productions and support the next generation of storytellers in the region.”
